WASHINGTON, DC, November 15, 2007 ? Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh, President  of the Council of Khalistan, received the International Peace Award  from the Dal Khalsa Alliance on October 28.  Dal Khalsa Alliance, led  by Sardar Paramjit Singh Sekhon, is an organization that works to free  the Sikhs of Punjab, Khalistan from Indian oppression.  The Council of  Khalistan leads the Sikh freedom struggle and is the government pro  tempore of Khalistan , the Sikh homeland that declared its independence  from India on October 7, 1987.  The Council of Khalistan was formed at  that time to lead the freedom struggle.

According to the Dal Khalsa Alliance , Dr. Aulakh was given the award  for raising voice against human rights violence by Indian government,  exceptionally devotional, tireless, committed, and dedicated services  to the Sikhs struggle for sovereignty.  Dr. Aulakh also received the  International Peace Award from Dal Khalsa USA in 2006 . Sardar Sekhon  operates two websites, http://www.dalkhalsausa.org/ and

http://www.dalkhalsaalliance.org/ , which are a source for news of Khalistan  and Sikh affairs.

According to the Dal Khalsa Alliance’s website, it established awards   “to honor the competent Sikhs, who have been working tirelessly for  the Chardikala of the Guru Khalsa Panth, internationalizing the Sikhs’ Struggle To Regain Their Lost Sovereignty, Independence and Political  Power by democratic and peaceful means, since 14th March, 1849.”

Currently, Khalistan is under Indian occupation .   India has murdered  over 250,000 Sikhs since 1984, according to figures compiled by the  Punjab State Magistracy.  According to a report by the Movement Against State Repression (MASR), 52,268 Sikhs are being held as  political prisoners in India without charge or trial.  Some have been   in illegal custody since 1984!

India has also killed over 90,000 Kashmiri Muslims
, over 300,000  Christians in Nagaland, and tens of thousands of Assamese, Bodos,  Dalits, Manipuris, Tamils, and other minorities.  Amnesty  International reports that India holds tens of thousands of these  minorities as political prisoners as well.

Other award recipients included the noted Sikh author Professor Gurtej  Singh, IAS, who received the Sardar Kapur Singh Memorial Award, named  for a noted Sikh author who was the first Professor of Sikhism (Professor Gurtej Singh is Professor of Sikhism); Dr. Paramjit Singh  Ajrawat
( Sikh General Bhai Bhagale Singh Memorial Award ); Dr. Awatar Singh Sekhon ( Shaheed Bhai Amrit Singh Memorial Award ); Simranjit Singh Mann ( Nawab Kapur Singh Memorial Award ); Sant Ram Singh Damdami  Taksal ( Sant Sundar Singh Memorial Award ); Dr. Sukhpreet Singh Udhoke  ( Giani Gurdit Singh Memorial Award ); Dr. Harjinder Singh Dilgeer ( Bhai  Kahn Singh Nabha Memorial Award ); and living martyr Bhai Balwant Singh  Rajoana ( Shaheed Bhai Harjinder Singh Jinda and Shaheed Bahi Sukhdev  Singh Sukha Memorial Award ).

I am pleased and honored to receive this award, Dr. Aulakh said. It is a recognition of the importance of our struggle to liberate our  homeland, Punjab, Khalistan, from Indian oppression and occupation .  I  am proud that Dal Khalsa Alliance is also working to free our  homeland.  I am eager to work with all Khalistan supporters to free  our homeland so that the Sikh Nation can reclaim its birthright and  live in freedom, dignity, and prosperity, he said.  Remember the  words of former Akal Takht Jathedar Professor Darshan Singh: ‘If a Sikh is not a Khalistani, he is not a Sikh’.  It is time to liberate  Khalistan,? he said.  Let us dedicate ourselves to that important  work.
